Free stretches.

posted Nov 23, 2010 21:43:10 by Chris
I'm new to river fishing so was just wondering if anyone knows of any free waters that I could try first? I have fished for most species over the yrs but like said never fished a river. I have good enough equipment I think, I have a good ten foot float rod, good twin tip feeder rod, an avon twin tip rod and a two piece 2.75lb carp rod. Reels are 6lb lined and 12lb on carp reel. So if anyone could advise me which would be best, best method of float fishing or ledgering I would be very grateful, cheers chris.
Hi all, very new to river fishing(haven't done any since being a kid, but hope to very soon),been reading as much as i can. A few of my neighbours n friends go river fishing and it sounds fantastic. I only found this site a few days ago and it captivated me straight away. I come from stourbridge and mainly fish small pools and the canals.

The free stretches around bewdley and Bridgnorth are very good mate. In Jan you can buy a BAA ticket which lets you have acess to miles of premium water - £30, can't go wrong! If you look at the catch reports page you'll see most bots are BAA. As regards tackle - Bin the 2.75lb, use the solid tips not the quivers and always use the 12lb line. Simples!! Well, thats from my point of view as I don't float fish.

Tickets are £6 a day for all but the 'prestige' venues like Holt Fleet where its full members only. Its worth buying the membership which runs from Jan to Jan.
